School Opening Update for August 2020
Message from Superintendent Naugle
Happy first of July! I wanted to update you on the Custer School District preparations for the coming fall.
- We are absolutely planning to have students and teachers in the schools! We know that the parents, teachers, and students all want to be back in our buildings. This is option number one. There may/will be adjustments made to schedules during the day and building procedures, but the days and times we have traditionally used are going to be used.
- We know that some families will have circumstances that will impact their decisions on sending their students back to school. Compromised immune systems of the student or a loved one may lead a family to not send their student to school. We will have plans in place to accommodate those students and families. We have many options that can be used to educate the children if the need arises.
- Athletics – Custer High School is a member of the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA), as are all high schools that wish to participate in interscholastic activities. As of today, the SDHSAA is planning on having fall sports and activities. Custer High School will participate in fall activities if they are being held by the SDHSAA.
The district will have to be flexible and adjust to changing medical issues in the county and state, but we have a team working on planning for many of these situations. We are hard at work preparing appropriate plans and procedures to ensure the safety of our staff and students.

First Day of School – Monday, August 24th
This is Mrs. Paulson. I have some good news to share. Custer School District meal deliveries have been extended throughout the summer. Some adjustments of delivery days and times have had to be adjusted. Deliveries will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. The CES – Door C pick up will go from 11:00am-11:20am. The Pringle (11:15am) and 4-Mile (12:00pm) delivery will remain the same. The intersection of Highway 385 & Highway 16 delivery will be from 11:45am-12:00pm. Aspen View will be from 12:10pm-12:30pm. Triple T will be from 12:45pm-1:00pm. There will no longer be an armory delivery. Those wanting meals will need to come to the drop off points at the new times. Students will still get breakfasts and lunches for 7 days a week but within the two deliveries instead of the three deliveries we had been doing each week. Thank you. Have a great summer!
Kindergarten Round-up / Screening will be Aug. 11 - 12. Please call the office at 673-4483 to schedule an appointment to have your kindergarten student screened and registered for classes for 2020-21.
